Electronic cigarettes are meant to be healthier for people to use then traditional cigarettes. This is one of the primary reasons why their use is becoming more widespread. The fact that numerous studies have shown that they contain only a fraction of the chemicals in tobacco cigarettes while being far more effective than products like nicotine patches and gum should make them a popular product.

However, some states are of the opinion that being a healthy alternative to smoking is not enough to prevent members of the public complaining about the use of e-cigarettes on public transport. MARC, which is a regional rail provider, is taking steps to ban them from use while riding the rail.
At present, a percentage of passengers who utilize MARC are not aware that electronic cigarettes are banned by the train service. However, the rail service is taking extra steps to ensure that everyone is aware of the new policies. People are already aware of the smoking bans for traditional products but not electronic cigarettes.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been against the use of electronic cigarettes from day one. They have discouraged their use and even failed in a bid to have stringent testing performed on all e-cigarette products. Now, regional rail providers such as MARC claim that some passengers are not comfortable with this smoking alternative either.
The purpose of electronic cigarettes is to make them exempt from smoking rules that prevent people from smoking in bars, restaurants and working environments. Bans such as the one MARC are imposing are being seen all across the country. These bans are very discouraging for those who see electronic cigarettes as a healthy alternative. I guess it all boils down to asking this simple question: Would you be offended if the person sitting next to you was using an electronic cigarette?
These bans will continue to pop up across the United States and as this happens, you will see more outcries from those who are strong supporters of electronic cigarettes.
